Klaatu's HOWTO's
HOWTO_slackermedia_v13.pdf has not yet been released. See the Slackermedia home page for what exists of the Slackermedia tutorials so far. Once we feel there is enough to actually release as a free ebook, we will take the text from this site and convert it to pdf and make it available for download.
Slackermedia-huge.sqf - an sbopkg queue file containing ALL dependencies and a few applications considered essential to a proper multimedia environment
Download the official Slackermedia Audacity Config File to gain a better UI layout and more "pro app" keyboard shortcuts.
smpte.sh - an embarrassingly simple shell script that will convert units of time to smpte timecode
Slackermedia user Hank Fields has made available a torrent file of all the free soundfonts available on Hammersound. The download contains over 350 soundfonts, with well over a thousand different sounds ranging from drum kits to synth leads, synth pads, pianos, synth effects, classic synth banks, and much more. Download and seed.
The Great Linux Multimedia Sprint version 1 "Rastapunk" has released a veritable power-pack of CC, GPL, OFL, and similarly licensed creative content for artists to use. It includes the soundfonts from above, but also features 23 sample banks, 2455 fonts, 28 sets of digital scrapbook material, over 302 GIMP brushes, 45 sets of vector clip art, 46 Blender Sequence Plugins (32 and 64 bit versions, thanks to Th0th), and 4 complete icon sets, plus some random wallpapers and geek art. Downloads are available as torrent or from two mirrors:
Hey, where's the iso?
Slackermedia is a distro from text. There is not now, and will never be, an .iso to download for Slackermedia.
Linux distros are a dime a dozen, which in part was the motivation for Slackermedia. While pre-packaged Linux distributions are good for some things, some times what you really need is a customized environment suited exactly to your needs. Slackermedia can be this for you; while "multimedia distributions" might be good to try out a few multimedia Linux applications, they almost always have either too much or too little, or else simply not exactly what you want. The answer is to start with a stable and powerful distribution, install it the way you want it, configure it to your liking, and build your own multimedia studio.
The distro is Slackware, the multimedia studio is Slackermedia.
OK, how do I start?
To get started building your own Slackermedia distro, read the slackermedia tutorials, and optionally download the source code and Slackbuilds for the applications you want to feature in your studio. We also encourage you to create your own Slackbuilds if there are applications you frequently use but are missing from Slackbuilds.org, and then (after much bug testing) submit them to Slackbuilds.org for other people to use.
Have fun and be creative!
